Missions to Bosnia – Herzegovina & Northern Ireland
Bosnia – Herzegovina combines all sorts of problems in their effort to find their way to Peace. After going through a long period of troubles, hatred and hostility they managed some time ago to reach an agreement… Have the two communities actually managed to come together? Have they demolished their separation lines and walls? Soma Akriton Youth Organization on behalf of the Youth Network for Youth Development has recruited a group of fifteen young people with good detective skills and a vision to see their homeland reunited and peaceful, to travel to Bosnia-Herzegovina and investigate the existing situation. The group consists of young people aged 14 to 18 years old from both communities. The visit will take place between 2nd July 2010 and Friday 9th July 2010 and the Programme will include the following among others:
• Meetings with the youth of PRONI CENTAR
• An introduction to the Bosnia - Herzegovina
• A tour in  the ‘troubles areas’ - escorted by ex fighters both from the Bosnians and the Serbs
• A number of workshops such as ‘Dealing with difference’, ‘Nationalism and religion’
• A visit to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia - Herzegovina
• A tour in the district of Brcko which is the only area not included in the federal states of Bosnia - Herzegovina

At the same time, another group of fifteen young people (ages 14 to 18 years old) from both communities will be travelling to Northern Ireland to examine the current situation there. It seems that in Northern Ireland, the Catholics and the Protestants have found their way to Peace (or not?…), after going through a long period of troubles, hatred and hostility… How did they do that? Have the two communities actually managed to come together? Have they demolished their separation lines and walls?  The Northern Irish Organization ‘The Spirit of Enniskillen Trust’ that specializes in peace building will help in answering these questions. The Programme will include:
• Meetings with the youth of The Spirit of Enniskillen Trust
• An introduction to the Northern Irish problem
• A West Belfast tour in Protestant and Catholic areas – the ‘troubles areas’ - escorted by two ex paramilitaries (one IRA, one Unionist)
• A number of workshops such as ‘Dealing with difference’, ‘Dialogue, Learning and Good relations’
• A visit to the Clifton House, which is a museum on the History of the United Irishmen
• A visit to Belfast Catholic and Protestant schools
• An excursion to the Giant’s Causeway, the famous rock formation on the northwest coast of Northern Ireland
